Thinking of Using the Euro This Summer

Until a moronic Ohioan changed everything, I had planned to take time late this summer to drive to Newfoundland, a distance of almost 6,000KM round trip. I’m not so sure I want to do that now that I have driven here from Edmonton, but anyway.

I thought that since I’d be going all that way, I might as well make a little detour that would involve getting the chance to spend a few Euro. I mean, by the time you get the Newfoundland, all you have to do is drop the car, get on a pedestrian-only ferry, and voila, you’re in a quaint French town!

Have any of my readers visited the islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia?

  1. Hey girl. My parents and I did go to St-Pierre in 2009. Hurricane Bill was going through so our visit wasn’t the best and we didn’t get to go to Miquelon or the historic village on the island outside St-Pierre. Also, if it’s still the same, you have to spend overnight on the island (when my brother went in 2004, you could do a day trip). Anyway, wasn’t very impressed and everything is closed on a Sunday (even the museum) so not much to do. Wasn’t overly impressed but got to have my passport stamped. The restaurants were good (of course) and I would recommend staying in a B&B for the full experience. Hope you get to stop on your way over (or back). J

  2. Hey stranger! I do know about Sundays and lunchtime closings, so I’d definitely be going during the week. Overnight is OK; you can get the ferry + accommodation for about $200; pretty cheap for a passport stamp! 🙂

If I go that way, I am DEFINITELY stopping in Halifax. I miss you!
