Mystery Wires

Well, the other dinette bench is gone and I’m now ready to finish laying in the Allure.

I found something interesting entombed behind the back of the dinette and the wall. It was completely inaccessible:

mess of wires

There was absolutely no way to access those wires other than by destroying the dinette. One would think they are important… I was very, very, very careful cutting away the carpet.

For this area, my vague plan is to have the furnace duct follow its old path along the wall and behind the captain’s chair by building a tunnel for it, and then mounting my little bookcase on top of the tunnel, but nothing’s set in stone yet.

With only the counter and the bookcase in the lounge, the space feels huge!

  1. You could build your tunnel for the duct and wires and then notch the back of the bookcase to fit over it. I did a similar thing with the white cupboard to the right of the washer in the laundry room. Just another thought…

  2. That is one thing that bugs me about construction in the last 20 years or so. – They don’t build with the allowance for the need to access the work later. I’ve heard horror stories about some of the things that need repair that you practically have to gut the beast to get to something moderately mundane.

  3. Croft, the tunnel’s going to have to be the same width as the bookcase (because of the width of the ducting). What I have in mind will make it seem like the bookcase is four or five inches from the floor. It should look fine.

Donna, it’s called a disposable society for a reason. 🙁
