Company

This morning, I invited longdog2 to come visit before I left. This afternoon worked best for her and she arrived around 3 and left at about 6:30. I had fun showing herย  the rig, then we went for a walk around the RV park.

I’m really enjoying having a home that I can keep almost ‘company ready’ all the time so that when I get company with a few hours’ notice, there is no panic involved. ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s definitely the best benefit of being organized and decluttered at long last; it’s easy to stay on top of the housekeeping.

Painting Plastic With Krylon Fusion Spray Paint

It’s no secret that I like a harmonious decor. While I love the cubbies I bought for the study,

the colour of the frame was all wrong. There is absolutely no grey in this room.

This is much better:

I used Krylon 2340 Fusion Spray Paint in the ‘espresso’ colour.

This paint adheres beautifully to plastic without having to sand or prime. I applied many fine layers and they all feathered beautifully. I knew from another blog that if you don’t shake the can a lot, you will get a grainy finish. I preferred that to a high gloss look, so I kept the shaking to a minimum and really like the slightly rough feel to the new finish. The end result is very rich and I am thrilled with it!

According to the directions, the coating will cure within a week and will then be chip resistant. It already feels dry to the touch after only a few hours of drying.

I may end up painting my ugly white and black garbage cans with this fantastic product!

I Ain’t Ever Movin’ Again

There are lot of RVers I follow or have met recently who are buying their first rig, changing rigs, moving into boats, or heading back into stick houses.

I look around Miranda and think of how much work I’ve put into making her as near to a perfect home on wheels as I could make with my resources. All I can say is that unless something really major happens, I ain’t ever movin’ again!!! I don’t think I could do this once more!

This is the longest I have lived in one space in my adult life and I have zero desire to move. Sure, I sometimes look at other rigs and wonder ‘what if’, who doesn’t, but it’s never serious. I now know that unless Mr. Perfect comes along, Miranda is going to be my only RV.

She is getting on with years, but has less than 62,000 miles / 100,000KM on the odo and has been well maintained. She can last a good while longer. The interiors has been so carefully tailored to my needs that I am not likely to outgrow her unless, of course, my family expands.

I do imagine that I will eventually redecorate (and even have the new colour scheme all planned out!), but that will be a few more years down the line. For now, I’m really enjoying my cheery pink, yellow, and green.

Yes, there is money to be put into this rig, there always will be, but I really don’t see any point in changing, especially since I’m fairly certain I would have a difficult time selling Miranda considering how much I’ve customized her.

Peace and rest at length have come. All the days long toil is past, and each heart is whispering, Home, home at last.

200W Short

When I went to pick up the correct solenoid in Port Lavaca, I caught the back of my short denim skirt on something in B & S’s truck that ripped a gash up a good part of the back of it. I was irked as skirts are growing harder and harder to find unless you shop at pricey online boutiques. This one was the exact length and heft that I needed for it to be wearable both in the summer with sandals and in colder weather with tights.

I’m not much of a seamstress, so I decided to try to repair the skirt using some iron-on fusible webbing and then finish off the repair with a few discrete hand stitches.

The few times that I’ve had access to 120V power lately, I just haven’t thought about the skirt. It was cool enough on the beach to be comfortable in my longer skirts. But it’s hot here and I miss having the shorter one. This afternoon, I decided to attempt a repair.

There was just one teensy problem: my iron draws 1,200W, 200W more than my inverter can handle. Gaaaaaaaaaaah.

There was my poor skirt, all trussed up and dampened (okay, soddened) and ready to go:

Never one to give up in front of a challenge, I remembered that for most of the history of ironing, women used heavy cast iron irons.

So I fired up the stove and a couple of minutes later, well:

It worked! The repair feels very good, but I will add a few stitches to make sure the ends are solid.

It’s true, necessity is the mother of all invention! ๐Ÿ˜€

Good Sleeping Weather

I left all the windows and roof hatches open last night, so the rig was super comfortable to sleep. It’s actually rather cold in here this morning, but I know that won’t last long.

The kitchen hatch rattles like the dickens, so I’ll keep it shut at night from now on. It’s meant as an escape route, so it doesn’t have a cover over it. This means that one really good gust of wind could rip it of, another reason not to leave it opened while unsupervised.

I bought a pork roast when I did my grocery run yesterday, so I’m cooking it this morning before the temperatures rise. It’s starting to smell really good! That said, we’re only supposed to hit about 75 today and that sky looks suspiciously full of rain clouds. So the heat wave is probably over.
