Chemainus: Town of Murals

My neighbour has given me permission to refer to her as Mrs. H in the blog, so I shall be doing that from now on. 🙂

Our next stop was about an hour north of Victoria and definitely off the beaten path. It was Chemainus, the town of murals.

This is a town that was apparently brought back from the brink and is now a bustling community with all the services within easy walking distance. I think it could be a potential for a ‘forever home’ for me should I ever get to the point of wanting to find one.

We walked around for a spell and saw the majority of the murals, went back to the car, and drove to the waterwheel park for a picnic lunch.

The road into Chemainus was sinewy and narrow, but okay for RV travel and the town has easy to follow directions to dedicated RV parking.

The RVer Who Stares At Goats

En route to Victoria, we made a stop I was told was a must see en route to Tofino, only it was closed then. So today was the day. We stopped at the Coombs Country Market, home of the goats on the roof. Unfortunately, there were no goats on the roof today. 🙁

The market is fun to walk through. There are kitschy tourist shops but also a large produce stand and an indoor food market filled with all manner of wonderful things to eat. I might stop back there on my way home.

We did pick up some lunch meat and I bought a croissant for breakfast and apples for a snack. This is definitely a place where you could spend a lot of time… and money!

Getting Ready for a ‘Weekend’ Away

Tomorrow morning, I am setting off for BC’s capital, Victoria! I will be there for three nights and two full days, and will be taking my neighbour with me. We are going to meander our way down there and make several recommended stops on route. As for my itinerary in Victoria, it’s still very much up in the air. Many of the ‘must see’ attractions have a much too high cost to interest ratio. I’ll make up my mind when I get there.

It’s a little scary to go away for four days with so much left to do before departure, but I need some time off! 😀

A World in Bloom

These are some of the flowers that have sprung to life on the property in the last couple of weeks:

Not sure what these are (primroses?) but I don't need to know their name to know they are pretty!

Tulips are such a May flower for me that they are serving as a good reminder that while the weather was horrible for a few weeks, I’m still in a pretty darn good climate!

A Long Way Down the Road of Finding My Better Way

My friend Les of The RVer’s Corner sent me yesterday a link to a blog post. I read the post a few times and have been mulling over whether or not to talk about it here. To do so really does feel like bragging, but I’m so thrilled that someone not only gets what it is I’m doing but also felt compelled to write so many eloquent words about it. Please go check out Brian’s thoughts on Building the RV “Community.”
