This morning, I was out the door early to get some fresh tortillas. I came in and threw chicken into the crockpot and drowned it in a bottle of Herdez-brand salsa verde, which has been a staple for me in my Mexico homes since Maz. It’s the commercial brand with the more natural ingredients and it has just enough heat to be enjoyable.
3:00 PM rolled around and the chicken was finally ready to be shredded and enjoyed on some tortillas, topped with more salsa verde, Herdez-brand guacamole, some pickled jalapeños, and just a hint of crema.
The tortillas were cold by this point, of course, so I turned on a burner and got to work heating and charring a few over an open flame (one of two acceptable ways of reheating tortillas, the other being in a comal) when my day took quite a comedic turn…
With a couple of indignant squeaks a whole family of geckos raced across the back of my stove, right under the grills and over the burners, before disappearing!
I made a mental note to clean my stove grills the next time I reheat tortillas, just in case, and then tucked into my delicious tacos. 🙂
Yes, very Mexican and of no cause for concern!
Geckos are good luck!
It’s amazing what a person can get used to. 🙂
I never got used to mice coming out when I was cooking! Difference is gecko poop isn’t lethal!
Too funny Rae! :o)
I am with you, and would rather have a gecko run across my stove anytime, anywhere than to see a mouse doing the same!
It was pretty surreal! Glad you got a chuckle out of it!
