We rent/loan gold pans at Bonanza in Dawson and whenever I hand some out to customers I joke that I’d appreciate 10% of whatever they find. One day, a couple came in with a big grin holding a vial of water glittering with a pinch of gold dust. “That’s ten cents worth of gold!” they proudly exclaimed before dropping a penny on the counter with a big smirk.
Here at the gas station in Campbell River we sell lottery tickets. With some of the regulars I joke that they need to remember me should they win anything. Today, I was going about my business and opened a drawer to get the phone book. Inside, there was an envelope with my name written on it. Curious, I opened it up to find 10$ and a business card with “Good pick. I won $35. Here’s your $10” written on it!!! Needless to say, I emailed the guy to thank him for his completely unnecessary and much appreciated generosity.
This post is at Croft’s request. Let it not be said that I won’t post on demand! 😀
Two mornings ago, at about 8:20, a huge, seemingly healthy, tree keeled over, taking out a fence and apparently rocking the house. The fellow staying in the house and I are a bit worried about the bank coming down now that the tree roots aren’t there to hold the thing together.
The first two loads I ran with the dishwasher set up below the counter were fine, but the two subsequent ones leaked slightly in the front of the unit. Danby countertop dishwashers are notorious for leaking from their doors, but I cannot be sure that this is the reason for the leak. I pulled the unit back out (grunt, grunt), set it up on the counter, and ran a load. No leak. Some other theories:
1) all the moving of the dishwasher jarred ‘something’, both negatively and positively;
2) the dishwasher wasn’t level in one of the positions;
3) the hoses are too low to drain properly
The leakage was really minor; I created more of a mess pulling the unit and having the hoses flail around. I know how to open up the dishwasher to fix the common Danby leak, but without being 100% sure that this is the problem, I don’t want to go through all of that. So, think, think, think and I believe I’ve come up with a solution that will also solve my hose storage problem. Thanks, Croft, for the inspiration!
I’ll do some more work on this tomorrow, provided that we get an hour or two without lashing winds and pouring rain that would soak me before I even got to the workshop.
I just came off a ten hour shift and am pretty sure I wasn’t this exhausted the evening after I climbed the Chilkoot Pass. 😀
It would be inappropriate to get into the details of why I wound up doing a ten hour shift, but I will say that my manager is a great guy.
