Waiting For Frames

Well, the toilet room is painted and the new curtain is up! I just need to find a couple more frames for the artwork and then the room will be done! Home Hardware has the correct sizes, but I want to see what I can find at the thrift store first. I found one perfect frame at the dump, so I’m optimistic that this won’t end up being the costliest part of the toilet room makeover!

No sneak peak; the room’s too small for that. 🙂 I’ll just say that it’s nearly perfect and exactly what I dreamed it would be.

Feeling Like the Weather

Bah.

I have been off Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons for a couple of weeks, so I decided to wrangle for tomorrow morning off as well, giving me my first full day off at home since I arrived in Dawson. I was pretty psyched to be off at 2 today all the way to 11AM Thursday morning and had a whole list of things that needed to be done.

Of course, I woke up with a sore throat. I don’t think I’m actually sick but rather in need of some rest. So, I put on a couple of movies I borrowed from the library and did something that only happens when pigs fly: I sewed. I don’t do sewing machines, so the project involved several hours worth of hand stitching after several hours worth of pinning and cutting.

This used to be part of a bedsheet and will soon be gracing the window of the toilet room:

The print has grown on me since I bought the fabric way back in Campbell River and it just so happens to perfectly match three of the colours I bought in Whitehorse. So expect to see more of it. 🙂

Priming the Toilet Room

After I got in with Oz, I was too wired to sit down and work or watch a movie. There were a million more urgent things I could have done, but I decided to start work on decorating the toilet room!

It might seem odd to start with that room, but it’s the only one I can finish in its entirety as I have all the decorating materials I need for it. It is also the smallest and therefore less daunting space, and it will tell me just how many litres of paint the other rooms are going to take.

After removing the curtain and toilet paper holder, I sanded the walls lightly to remove some of their slickness. Then, I primed:

Ew. White is even worse than turquoise-spackled paneling. 😀

I’ll have to live with that ugliness for a few days while the primer (water-based Kilz) sets and then I’ll move on to paint!

Meanwhile, I will fight with fabric and make a new curtain. Should be interesting 🙂

Still Waiting for Tomatoes

I should have called my last post on the subject GREEN Spheres of deliciousness! 😀

Using advice from the farmer who gave me the plants, I repotted the saddest looking one, have been feeding all three blood and bone meal (yuck!), and watering them consistently. The result: healthy looking (I think) plants loaded down with lots of lovely green fruit. I’m told that I may get red ones in the nearish future. I sure hope so! 😀

Prepping the Paint Prep

I bought some paint in Whitehorse:

They are very close to some of the paint colours I had in mind back in Campbell River. They are also the exact type of paint I wanted–kitchen and bath with a mildew agent added. They were found in the ‘oops’ section at the Home Hardware for four bucks each!!!

There will be enough of the blue and lavender, but I’m pretty sure the pink and green will run out. What I will do with those is take them to the Home Hardware here in Dawson and have them match the colours as best as possible, then mix the two batches together. The lavender is going into the toilet room, the pink into the dressing room, the blue into the loft, and the green into the study. What a find!!!

The front room needs rethinking. I had thought of doing the kitchen in yellow and the library in orange, but one of my wonderful readers sent me on a tangent and now I need to rethink what I’m doing for that room, wall colour-wise. I’m starting to have a lot of different colours with little relation between them, so it’s time to pause and start focusing on fabrics.
