No grocer here seems to know what tahini is!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12709\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP22851.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12709\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12709\" title=\"IMGP2285\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP22851.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12709\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">tabouleh, falafel, and hummus mixes<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It felt sacrilegious to buy these, but I was getting desperate! Greek-style falafel doesn&#8217;t do much for me!<\/p>\n<p>I made up the hummus and tabouleh first and let them sit for a bit.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12710\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2286.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12710\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12710\" title=\"IMGP2286\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12710\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">hummus and tabouleh (with added tomatoes)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The first taste of both left me relieved. The hummus is flavourful and smooth. The tabouleh is a bit more &#8216;parsleyish&#8217; than I like, needing some fresh mint, but for a box mix I am quite impressed!<\/p>\n<p>I then mixed up the falafel mix, which would have to sit for ten minutes:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12711\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2284.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12711\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12711\" title=\"IMGP2284\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2284.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12711\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">very damp falafel mix<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While that sat for a bit, I cut up my <a href=\"http:\/\/travelswithmiranda.uskeba.ca\/?p=12701\">mystery fruit<\/a>. I was right, it&#8217;s a melon! It tastes like a canary melon and I&#8217;m wondering if this is a miniature version of one. It is VERY sweet.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12712\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2289.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12712\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12712\" title=\"IMGP2289\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2289.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12712\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">mystery fruit is a melon!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The falafel mix was getting thicker, but not quite ready yet:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12713\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2288.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12713\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12713\" title=\"IMGP2288\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2288.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12713\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">falafel mix getting thicker<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Pita offerings are slim out west, but these Greek pitas appeared to be anything but and I took a chance on them:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12714\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2287.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12714\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12714\" title=\"IMGP2287\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2287.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12714\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">not-so-Greek pitas<\/p><\/div>\n<p>They were stale, of course, so I nuked one for a few seconds with a damp paper towel over top. Took it out and investigated. Sure enough, this was a thin, pocket-style pita, not a thick, pocket-less Greek-style pita. Yay!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12715\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2290.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12715\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12715\" title=\"IMGP2290\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2290.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12715\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">stale pocket pita is better than no pita!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I then heated up some oil and while that was going, I dressed up my pita:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12716\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2291.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12716\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12716\" title=\"IMGP2291\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2291.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12716\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">a layer of hummus<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_12717\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2293.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12717\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12717\" title=\"IMGP2293\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2293.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12717\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">a layer of tabouleh<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Time to check if the oil was hot enough:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12718\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2292.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12718\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12718\" title=\"IMGP2292\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2292.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12718\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">that sizzle tells me to get those patties in there!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I don&#8217;t have a falafel baller, so I just rolled balls in my hands and lightly flattened them. One minute of frying on each side and voila!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12719\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2296.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12719\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12719\" title=\"IMGP2296\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2296.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12719\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">that actually looks like falafel!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Add three falafel patties and the sandwich is done:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2295.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12720\" title=\"IMGP2295\" src=\"http:\/\/www.raecrothers.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/IMGP2295.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The falafel mix was excellent! I could zazoom it up with some toasted sesame seeds next time, and it was definitely missing a drizzle of tahini, but for a lunch at home from three boxes I am very satisfied!<\/p>\n<p>And, yes, I will be eating the leftovers for the next few days.
