tourti\u00e8re<\/a>! I’m pretty sure it’s the first time in about 20 years that I’ve had this traditional French-Canadian holiday staple, and I’m in Mexico of all places! There were a lot of other dishes, too. I brought a big pot full of saut\u00e9ed onions, garlic, chayote, carrots, and broccoli and went halfsies with Dale on a huge plate of pastries.<\/p>\nI loaded up on the broccoli and turkey and only had a couple of bites of dessert, not wanting a repeat of last year where I said, “Bah, it’s Christmas,” had everything I wanted, shocked my system, and felt like crap for a week after!<\/p>\n
We ate early (about 3:30), so we got to watch the sunset on the beach before the bugs chased us in!<\/p>\n
Even though the 25th of\u00a0 December is truly just another day for me (I worked a full day), I’ve somehow managed to find myself having a holiday dinner every year since I left in ’08 except in ’10:<\/p>\n
’08: potluck at the nasty RV park in Oliver with the lovely guests<\/p>\n
’09: dinner with a friend’s parents in Campbell River<\/p>\n
’10: nothing at all as I was in the Osoyoos park with the vile busybodies. I shut myself in and worked on my ebook<\/p>\n
’11: dinner with Jody and Gary in Lethbridge<\/p>\n
’12: dinner with my adopted Virginia family (miss you guys!)<\/p>\n
’13: dinner with my adopted Saskatchewan family (miss you guys!)<\/p>\n
